9 December 2009 - China-Africa S&T Cooperation

SciDev.Net, the science and development news network, have reported on progress made between Africa and China in fostering science and technology cooperation.

Reporting from Beijing, Wu Ni writes that "China is continuing to show an interest in developing African research capacity with the announcement of a cooperation programme in science and technology."

"The China-Africa Science and Technology Partnership was launched by China's Ministry of Science and Technology last week (24 November)."

7 December 2009 - SANORD 2009 Kicks Off with CAAST-Net Brokerage Event

The Southern African-Nordic Centre's second international conference, Inclusion and Exclusion in Higher Education, kicked-off today at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa.

A special brokerage and networking session, organised and supported by CAAST-Net, was held to co-incide with SANORD proceedings. This included a presentation by Segopotso Moshapo - the South African national contact point for the FP7 ICT theme - on the recently launched FP7 ICT call for proposals.

The event also featured presentations on other bi-regional funding instruments to support Africa-Europe collaboration. These will be made available on the event's home page. Please check back soon.

The SANORD conference, which has attracted participation of close to 150 researchers from both southern Africa and the Nordic countries, was opened officially by Rhodes University vice-chancellor, Dr. Saleem Badat. A range of papers will be presented over the next two days. Topics range from ICT and higher education to public engagement in archaelogy.
