CAAST-Net Co-Organises International FP7 Priority-Setting Meeting

Release posted: 8 October 2010

A joint workshop entitled "Drafting topics of common interest for EU, South-East Asian, African and Latin American partners relevant for Theme 2 Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Biotechnology (KBBE) of FP7 - Toward a strengthening of S&T international cooperation in the FP7 programmes" will be organised at CIRAD (La recherche agronomique pour le développement) in Montpellier, on 13, 14 and 15 October 2010.

This joint workshop is organised under the European INCO project South-East Asia (SEA-EU-NET), jointly with the INCO-Nets for Africa (CAAST-Net) and for Latin America (EULARINET), on the broad theme "Food security and primary production mitigating / adapting to climate change". Indeed, this theme has been considered as recurrent and pertinent in the three continents.

The specific objectives of this workshop are to provide validated input to the programme directorates on the S&T potentials of South-East Asia, Africa and Latin America and research topics of mutual interest, to consider the specific needs of the South-East Asian, African and Latin American partner countries and address specific challenges that Third Countries face on the effect of climate change on food security. The deliverable will be a document containing duly justified proposals for SICA, including key topics for cooperation corresponding to FP7 KBBE's thematic priorities.

It is the first workshop co-organised by three INCO-NET projects. CIRAD, a French research centre working through partnerships in South and North regions to tackle international agricultural and development issues, is a member of CAAST-Net.
