Food and agriculture session

South Africa's Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) will hold a session on food and agriculture on 10 September 2010. The session will take place on the sidelines of the first international conference on e-services for African agriculture, food, environment and life sciences (e-Africa 2010) taking place from 8 to 10 September 2010 in Johannesburg, the business capital of South Africa.

The conference will bring together scientists, technology developers, engineers and officials from government agencies and non-governmental organisations to discuss ways of using ICT to provide timely information on weather forecasts and better pricing to farmers.

Mamohloding Tlhagale, an agreement coordinator for the DST, will present a paper on the agreement signed between South Africa and COST last year at the session.

COST is an intergovernmental framework that coordinates nationally-funded research and promotes ease of access to institutions from outside the European Union to the region's research area. Loanna Stavridou, a science officer for food and agriculture at COST, will share details about the framework.

More details about the COST/DST session are available from Mamohloding Tlhagale via email on Mamohloding.Tlhagale@dst.gov.za.
